Historic Moment at Toronto City Hall: April Declared Nepali Heritage Month
Toronto City Hall Proclaims April as Nepali Heritage Month
The Nepalese Canadian Community Services (NCCS) is proud to announce a historic achievement for the Nepali community in Toronto and across Canada. On April 23, Toronto City Hall officially proclaimed the month of April as Nepali Heritage Month through the successful passing of Motion MM40.8.
The motion was moved by Councillor Neethan Shan and seconded by Councillor Amber Morley, demonstrating strong support and recognition for the Nepali community and its valuable contributions to the city’s multicultural identity.
This proclamation marks a significant milestone in celebrating and recognizing the rich culture, traditions, language, history, and achievements of Nepali Canadians. It reflects the growing presence and positive impact of the Nepali community within Toronto and throughout Canada.
The President of NCCS was present at Toronto City Hall on this memorable day to witness the passing of the motion alongside community leaders, supporters, and advocates. The occasion was filled with pride, joy, and a shared sense of accomplishment for everyone involved.
Nepali Heritage Month will provide an important opportunity each year to celebrate Nepal’s diverse cultural heritage through festivals, educational programs, community events, music, dance, art, and cultural activities. It will also help promote awareness, understanding, and appreciation of Nepali culture among the wider Canadian community.
NCCS sincerely thanks Councillor Neethan Shan, Councillor Amber Morley, Toronto City Council, community organizations, volunteers, and all supporters who contributed to making this historic proclamation possible. Their support and collaboration have helped create a meaningful legacy for current and future generations.
This achievement represents not only recognition of the Nepali community’s contributions but also a celebration of diversity, inclusion, and multiculturalism in Toronto.
NCCS looks forward to continuing to work together with community members and partners to celebrate Nepali Heritage Month every April with pride and unity.
