Consular camp at the heart of our community

A special two-day consular service camp was organized in Scarborough, bringing essential services such as passport renewal, power of attorney, and document attestation directly to Nepali community members. Held at Namaste Pavilion Restaurant in Scarborough and coordinated locally by Nepalese Canadian Community Services (NCCS) in partnership with the Embassy of Nepal in Ottawa and NRNA Canada, the program ran full days to accommodate as many applicants as possible.

Why this camp mattered

For many Nepali families, travelling to Ottawa for consular services means taking time off work, arranging childcare, and covering significant travel costs. By bringing the Embassy team to Toronto, the camp reduced these barriers and made consular support more accessible, efficient, and community-friendly for students, workers, seniors, and families across the GTA.

NCCS’s role and community partnership

As a long-standing, non-profit organization serving the Nepali diaspora since 2000, NCCS once again played a coordinating role in connecting government services with community needs. From outreach and registration support to on-site coordination and communication, NCCS worked alongside NRNA Canada and other local Nepali groups to ensure the camp ran smoothly and that applicants arrived prepared with the correct forms and documents.

Building trust, access, and dignity

This initiative is more than a service event; it reflects a shared commitment to dignity, rights, and inclusion for Nepali Canadians. By making it easier to renew passports, complete legal documentation, and stay connected to Nepal, the camp helped community members protect their status, travel, and family ties with less stress and uncertainty.

Looking ahead: more support, closer to you

The strong response to this consular camp sends a clear message: mobile, community-based services are essential for a growing and diverse Nepali population in Canada. NCCS will continue advocating for regular consular outreach in the GTA and remains committed to working with partners to provide programs that support settlement, wellbeing, and cultural connection for all Nepali Canadians.
